Hanna will open nationwide on Friday, April 8th, 2011, and wraps production next month on location in Europe. BAFTA Award winner Joe Wright, whose films include Focus’ Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, is directing the movie. Hanna stars Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan, Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, and Eric Bana. Hanna (Ms. Ronan) is a teenage girl. Uniquely, she has the strength, the stamina, and the smarts of a solider; these come from being raised by her father (Mr. Bana), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland. Living a life unlike any other teenager, her upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Ms. Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity. Hanna also stars Jason Flemyng, Tom Hollander, Olivia Williams, and Martin Wuttke. Seth Lochhead wrote the initial screenplay and has written subsequent drafts, as have David Farr, Joe Penhall, and Mr. Wright. Academy Award nominee Leslie Holleran (Chocolat) is producing Hanna with the team of Marty Adelstein and Scott Nemes.
Moving aggressively, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisition Group has acquired all available foreign territory rights to Focus Features’ adventure thriller “Hanna,” from director Joe Wright.
Deal throws the weight of a studio behind “Hanna” in many international territories.
Focus — Universal’s specialty division — will retain distribution rights to “Hanna” in the U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Israel, Middle East and CIS. Sony Pictures Entertainment will release the film everywhere else.
Pact was engineered by Alison Thompson’s Focus Features Intl., which was shopping the project to foreign buyers at Cannes, and marks the biggest deal of the market so far. It also pairs a U.S. major with a U.S. studio specialty division.
“Hanna,” starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana, is in its final month of filming in Europe and will be released in 2011. Project reteams Wright and Ronan, who worked together on Focus’ “Atonement.” Universal distributed “Atonement” internationally.
Wow! We have our first look of Saoirse as Hanna. Thanks to M for the tip.

Young females with a killer instinct seem to be in vogue right now at the movies, what with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Kick-Ass. The next in line to be recruited for lethal duty is Saoirse Ronan, the 16-year-old Irish star of last year’s The Lovely Bones and an Oscar nominee as Keira Knightley’s troublemaking little sis in 2007′s Atonement.
In this exclusive first-look photo, reports USA TODAY’s Susan Wloszczyna, she is the title character in Hanna, raised from childhood to be the perfect assassin by her ex-CIA man father (Eric Bana) in rural Finland.
Cate Blanchett is the icy intelligence operative overseeing her mission. The Jason Bourne meets La Femme Nikita thriller is directed by Joe Wright, who showed a flair for intense action during the Dunkirk beach scene in Atonement, and is due next year.
Finally we have our first look of Saoirse filming “Hanna”. She was spotted on set on April 09 and 14.
