A new still from Violet and Daisy has been added to the gallery.

You’ve gone from writing to directing films. What’s the status with your first directorial effort, ‘Violet and Daisy?’
GF: I couldn’t be happier with it. People have told me that they’ve never seen anything like it. It has its own universe and such an amazing cast. Everybody in the cast and crew “went for it” and delivered some of their best work ever. Will it be released in theaters this year?
GF: Yes. In the fall. What was the reception like when it debuted at the Toronto Film Festival last year?
GF: Really cool. We had a frenzied red carpet and each screening was sold out though we hadn’t done much publicity beforehand. The audience seemed to jump at all the surprises and laugh a lot. Towards the end, we saw a few people crying, in a good way I think. To me, it was so gratifying.
Stephie Meyer, the author of The Host mentioned about Saoirse in her blog. Thanks to J for the heads up.
In the meantime, shooting on The Host is going awesomely–and quickly. I can’t believe we’re almost done. Things are looking fairly extraordinary and I cannot wait to see what Andrew Niccol will do with all this amazing footage. However, I am not ready to be done because I am not ready to give up Saoirse, who I would happily adopt by force if I didn’t like her parents so much, and if she wasn’t legally an adult. (By the way, for those who have asked about pronunciation, Saoirse rhymes with “inertia.”)
Thanks to Mon for the find.
Darren Aronofsky‘s passion project Noah hasn’t had the easiest time getting off the ground. Aside from taking a while to receive a green light, the film had to deal with loosing its first two leads, Christian Bale and Michael Fassbender. Eventually though, things picked up and Russell Crowe signed on to star. Now that production is starting to gain some steam, Paramount has set a release date for March 28th, 2014.
March is an odd time to release a film like this. It’s not being set up for Awards season nor is it being thrown into the summer blockbuster mix, which begs the question of what is Paramount’s angle with the film?
In other Noah news, Aronofsky’s Requiem For A Dream star Jennifer Connelly has begun negotiating a deal to star as the film’s female lead. The report comes from The Tracking Board and if the actress signs on, she’ll be reuniting with Russell Crowe, who she worked with on A Beautiful Mind.
That’s not all though, The Film Stage is also reporting that the studio is interested in Hanna star Saoirse Ronan for an undisclosed supporting role. Neither Connelly or Ronan are confirmed but they are both in talks and will likely sign on.
Pre-production production and principal photography starts in July so you can expect more updates in the near future. As always, we’ll keep you posted.
Carlow native actress Saoirse Ronan has revealed that she celebrated her eighteenth birthday in the “best way possible” – on set of her new movie The Host.
The hard-working teenager is so dedicated to her work, that she refused to take a day of to mark the momentous occasion.
Speaking to The Star newspaper she said: “I’m working. I am, I’m very happy. We are just on the way into work right now. We are about to start shooting.”
She later posted a twitter comment which read: “U2 rockin’ out on the ipod. Hair and make-up truck decorated with balloons and stars – what a great start to my 18th…Doing what I love!”
The Lovely Bones actress is playing the lead role of Melanie Stryder in the upcoming sci-fi movie, which co-stars Diane Kruger, Max Irons, William Hurt and Jake Abel.
The Host is based on the novel by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer.
We wanted to wish Saoirse a happy (belated) birthday. We know we are really late with this, since she turned 18 years old on April 12. So happy birthday Saoirse, we hope you had a lovely day with your family and friends!
Director Geoffrey Fletcher recently talked about “Violet and Daisy” and he also confirmed it will get a fall release this year. Thanks to J. for the link!
