Young ‘Atonement’ star Ronan is golden without Globes
A few hours before she would have been getting her follicles and face done for the Golden Globes, Atonement’s Saoirse Ronan was getting pampering of a different sort. While sitting outdoors in the Los Angeles sunshine, Ronan’s mother dabbed Nivea sunblock on her daughter’s fair-skinned hands.
It has been a whirlwind of a weekend for Ronan, who attended the BAFTA tea party on Saturday and the official NBC/Universal/Focus Globes party on Saturday night, where she hung out with Atonement director Joe Wright and co-star James McAvoy.
“And I didn’t get to actually meet her, but I saw (Extras star) Ashley Jensen, and I got really excited,” Ronan said.
Even without the Globes, it has been a mad weekend for the 13-year-old Irish actress, who was nominated for supporting actress in a film.
“It has been a bit hectic. I’ve been doing lots and lots of press. It has eased out over the last few days, and I’ve gotten to go to the pool. It’s really nice, because we don’t usually get weather like this in Ireland in January. It feels like summer.”
Ronan was planning to watch the Globes announcement at a private gathering with the Atonement cast and crew, minus Keira Knightley, who’s not even in town.
“We’ll have dinner and watch, and that’s it. And I’m going to make little signs that say ‘Go Atonement go! You are No. 1!’ even if we don’t win.”
