Cinedigm acquired “Violet & Daisy”
Nov 13th, 2012 News & Rumors, Violet & Daisy 0 Replies
Variety is reporting that “Violet & Daisy” finally found a distributor. They are aiming for a 2013 release.
Cinedigm Entertainment Group has acquired North American distribution rights to Geoffrey Fletcher’s “Violet & Daisy,” more than a year after its world premiere at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival.
Cinedigm plans a theatrical release for “Violet” next year with subsequent rollout across on-demand, digital and DVD.
Movie stars Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel as pop culture-obsessed assassins in New York City who accept what they think will be an easy job until an unexpected target, played by James Gandolfini, throws their plan into chaos.
The film is Fletcher’s directorial debut. He also produced with John Penotti and Bonnie Timmermann.
The filmmakers were represented in the negotiations by GreeneStreet Films and CAA, while Vincent Scordino repped Cinedigm.
It’s the second acquisition of a TIFF title within a week for Cinedigm, which announced Friday that it had bought all U.S. distribution rights to Dante Ariola’s “Arthur Newman” two months after the drama premiered at Toronto.

A new still from Violet and Daisy has been added to the gallery.
And here’s an interview of Geoffrey Fletcher, director of Violet and Daisy, talk about Violet and Daisy.
You’ve gone from writing to directing films. What’s the status with your first directorial effort, ‘Violet and Daisy?’
GF: I couldn’t be happier with it. People have told me that they’ve never seen anything like it. It has its own universe and such an amazing cast. Everybody in the cast and crew “went for it” and delivered some of their best work ever. Will it be released in theaters this year?
GF: Yes. In the fall. What was the reception like when it debuted at the Toronto Film Festival last year?
GF: Really cool. We had a frenzied red carpet and each screening was sold out though we hadn’t done much publicity beforehand. The audience seemed to jump at all the surprises and laugh a lot. Towards the end, we saw a few people crying, in a good way I think. To me, it was so gratifying.

Wild Bunch will sell at AFM while CAA handles domestic rights. Fletcher wrote the script and produced with Bonnie Timmerman. The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Alexis Bledel and James Gandolfini. “Violet & Daisy” Reviews

Following his Oscar-winning script for “Precious,” Geoffrey Fletcher’s directorial debut manages to be precious in a whole different way, sadly far-removed from the approach he took adapting the novel “Push” by Sapphire. Last and least in a run of pics that fancy teen girls as cold-blooded killers, “Violet & Daisy” offers a questionably sentimental spin on the Hit Girl gimmick seen in “Kick-Ass,” casting the armed-and-dangerous stars of “Sin City” (Alexis Bledel) and “Hanna” (Saoirse Ronan) as a pair of implausible assassins. This cutesy dark comedy seems destined for cult status, but could also connect with less Puritanical overseas auds. [...]
Variety
Violet & Daisy is a meditation on love, friendship and death told in a surreal fable ostensibly about a pair of teenage girl assassins. The film’s writer-director, Geoffrey Fletcher, came to everyone’s attention when he penned the screenplay for Precious. So when you win an Oscar, you get to do a pet project such as Violet & Daisy. Fletcher is not at the stage as a film artist to be able to pull off a venture this ambitious, but the film contains a number of fine moments when the actors, director and screenplay really spark to life, when you can see the movie Fletcher wants to make but can’t quite reach.
