Fox Searchlight to distribute “Grand Budapest Hotel”

Mar 28th, 2013     News & Rumors, The Grand Budapest Hotel     0 Replies

Fox Searchlight acquired “The Grand Budapest Hotel” reports THR. More details about the plot are also revealed.

The Oscar-nominated writer-director’s latest film, which was shot in Germany, stars Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman and Jude Law, among others.

Fox Searchlight has reserved The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The specialty label has acquired the rights to distribute worldwide writer-director Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The movie, which just wrapped production in Germany, is described as a story about “a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars and his friendship with a young employee who becomes his trusted protégé.”

The plot focuses on “the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the battle for an enormous family fortune and the slow and then sudden upheavals that transformed Europe during the first half of the 20th century.”

Produced by Scott Rudin, Steven Rales and Jeremy Dawson, it features a immense ensemble cast filled with Anderson regulars and several new stars. Led by Ralph Fiennes, the newcomers also include Jude Law, Harvey Keitel, Saoirse Ronan, Tom Wilkinson, Mathieu Amalric, Tony Revolori and F. Murray Abraham.

Anderson returnees include Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, Bob Balaban — and of course, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson and Bill Murray.

Searchlight distributed Anderson’s 2007 film The Darjeeling Limited and 2009′ Fantastic Mr. Fox, while Focus Features handled last year’s Moonrise Kingdom, which earned Anderson and co-writer Roman Coppola Oscar nominations for screenwriting.
